What is a CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate)?

The CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate), commonly known as the Seaman's Book or Seaman's Discharge Book, is an official maritime identity document issued to seafarers by their Flag State. It records all sea service — vessels served on, dates, rank, and discharge details — serving as both a passport for port entry and a career service record.

CDC in UAE

The UAE issues CDC documents through the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MOEI). To obtain a UAE CDC, seafarers need a valid passport, STCW certificates, medical fitness certificate, and UAE residence visa. Foreign seafarers working on internationally flagged vessels use their home country CDC.
