What is an AHTS Vessel?
An AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) vessel is a highly specialized offshore support vessel that performs three primary functions: anchor handling for drilling rigs and floating production units, towage of offshore structures, and supply of materials to offshore installations.
AHTS vs PSV
The key difference is that AHTS vessels have a powerful winch and stern roller for handling anchor chains and moorings, and are built for high bollard pull (towing power). PSVs focus on cargo carrying capacity. AHTS vessels typically have higher bollard pull ratings — ranging from 80 to 350+ tonnes.
AHTS Jobs in UAE
The UAE offshore sector employs numerous AHTS vessels, particularly around ADNOC's offshore fields in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah offshore. Zakher Marine International, one of the region's largest OSV operators, is headquartered in Abu Dhabi.
