What is EXW (Ex Works)?

EXW — Ex Works — is the Incoterm that places maximum responsibility on the buyer. Under EXW, the seller simply makes the goods available at their factory, warehouse, or named premises. The buyer is responsible for every subsequent step: loading, inland transport, export customs clearance, international freight, insurance, and import clearance at destination.

EXW Practical Use

EXW is commonly used when buyers have strong logistics capabilities or when selling to buyers in the same country. For international shipments, particularly through UAE ports, EXW can create complications as the foreign buyer must handle export customs in the seller's country.
