What is AWB (Air Waybill)?

The AWB — Air Waybill — is the transport document for air cargo. Unlike the Bill of Lading, the AWB is always non-negotiable, meaning it cannot be used as a document of title. It serves as a receipt for cargo and a contract of carriage between the shipper and the air carrier.

AWB vs B/L

The key differences: AWB is non-negotiable (B/L can be negotiable), AWB accompanies the shipment (B/L sent separately), and AWB is used for air freight (B/L for sea freight).
