What is a DPO (Dynamic Positioning Operator)?

A DPO (Dynamic Positioning Operator) is a maritime officer who has completed specialized training and certification to operate Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems aboard offshore vessels, drill ships, pipe-lay vessels, and other DP-equipped ships. DP technology uses GPS, wind sensors, motion reference units, and computer-controlled thrusters to automatically maintain the vessel's position and heading without anchoring.

DP Certificates

The Nautical Institute issues the internationally recognized DP certification in two stages: DPTIC (Introductory Course) and DPO Certificate after completing the required DP sea time in a logbook.

DPO in UAE Offshore Sector

DPOs are in high demand in the UAE offshore sector for PSVs, AHTSs, drilling support vessels, and construction vessels operating for ADNOC and other offshore operators.
